Women’s Adventure Fiction Novel Recommendations

Women’s Adventure Fiction Novel Recommendations

I will be publishing my first book within the next few months. Currently, the manuscript is finished and I am doing my second round of personal editing. Then, I will be getting beta readers to critique my work, then a developmental story editor and then a line (grammar/spelling) editor. With my own edits based on their suggestions between each step. Just because a book is written does not mean it is ready. Numerous substantial steps are involved in creating a professional, polished novel worthy of publication. I love every step I am taking to realize my goal.

Many people have asked me what kind of book I am writing. I’m writing a novel that stems from my love of the outdoors. A women’s adventure fiction novel series. I write often on this website about my varied outdoor excursions: hiking, snowshoeing, running and winter cycling to name a few that I’ve posted about. My novel, is about four sisters and a dog who go off into the Canadian wilderness for a fun kayaking camping women-only adventure. Secrets, mistakes and misfortunes will threaten their relationships and their lives on this fateful trip.

As a writer, you are tasked with finding comparative novels to your own book. It is paramount to discover who your readers will be before you publish and start marketing. The best way to find YOUR readers are by finding books similar to yours. If they like those books, they’ll most likely be interested in yours as well.

I’ve joined the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, a writing community all about improving and supporting each other in our writing. In their Facebook group, I asked for help in finding comparative novels to mine. I received four great recommendations, three of which are other writers in the WFWA. I immediately bought the ebooks of them all. I thought I would share them with you so you can add them to your To Be Read (TBR) pile. And hopefully also give you a better idea of the genre I am writing in.

A troubled, young widow hiked from Yosemite Valley deep into the wilderness on the John Muir Trail to elude her shameful past in this emotionally gripping story.
An exhilarating debut novel of one woman’s courage in the face of catastrophe. A heart-pounding novel of bravery, sacrifice and self-discovery.
A thriller set against the harsh beauty of the Maine wilderness. The River at Night charts the journey of four friends as they fight to survive the aftermath of a white water rafting accident.
Two estranged sisters embark on a hike on the Porcupine Mountains of Michigan’s upper peninsula. In this remote wilderness they’ll face their deepest fears, question their beliefs and perhaps find the best way forward.

Enjoy these books along with me as I immerse myself in my writing genre.

Can you think of any other comparative novels of women’s contemporary adventure fiction?

I would love to hear about them.

  1. Hello!
I am an avid reader and am new to beta readers. I actually learned about it from a series I was reading and it piqued my interest. How awesome would it be to be a part of a new book/author and be able to provide insight on a plot and help fix those pesky errors that seem to slip by in so many novels? I often find myself learning about random things from the books that I read and then Googling to get more details and information.
I enjoy reading books about women’s adventures and thrillers.
Please let me know if you would be interested in me as a beta reader for your novel.
    Thanks!!

    1. Welcome Liza, I would love to have you beta read my manuscript. Thank you for your interest.
